My beautiful daughter, the Little Buddha, is fast approaching the Big Six Months. For any parent, it’s a mark of genuine progress and yet when I tell people they only ever demand more. Is she sitting up, they ask almost without fail? No but she’s trying hard. But is she weaning? Not quite, but she’ll nibble on a cucumber for longer than most sane folk. So, is she sleeping in her own room now? Er no, but it’s hardly her fault that her dopey parents can’t quite let go. We’re moving her next door at the weekend… oh hang on, she’s got a little cough, so maybe the week after…

Fatherhood will leave you lost for words

The books on my bedside table are coated in a thick layer of dust. This weekend, I’ll probably read a few sports pages while I’m cooking the roast but more than ever I’m completely reliant on the radio for mental stimulation.

Little Buddha’s colic is pretty bad and some nights she rages from 7pm until midnight. During the week, the Duchess does the night feed but lately I’ve also had to get up most nights to soothe Boy Wonder, who is unusually – but understandably – unsettled.
